A Study in Acts Intro

The Christ Following Sisters group was created so that members could encourage each other towards Christ, and grow in their relationship with our savior. Recently, I have been drawn to one question: What does it really look like for a group of people to truly follow Christ? As Christians we are not left without an answer to this question. We are given a great book of direction, The Bible, and through it we can observe the new testament church and how it functioned. What drove it? What is different today? What is missing in today's church that was present then? We want to become like the new testament, with passion and zeal for following Christ. Our goal should be to become a microcosm of the early church. Together, let's find out what the early church was like through a study of the book of Acts. What do we need to do to become more like them? The plan is to read two chapters a day starting on June 15th. As you read, keep the questions above in mind. Anything you wish to discuss, comment on, share, or ask questions about as you read, post in the comments below.

  1. Prayer in Decision Making
    Read Acts 1:24-25
Notice before picking the new apostle, the assembly prayed over who would be God's will to replace Judas. They looked to God before making decisions. So often I feel as though we jump into decisions before consulting God. I know that is something with which I struggle. Though I definitely think chapter one and the rest of Acts provides us with such a great role model in how we should approach decision making.

  3. Sorry my notes are late, I haven't had access to the internet very much lately. One thing in the chapters that really stood out to me is the man who was healed. I wonder if he ever questioned God why He had made him unable to walk. Maybe he said to himself "Why me? Why would God do something like this to me?" He didn't know that God would use him to show His power and bring hundreds to Christ! I think a lot of people, myself included, think 'why would God do this or why did He allow this to happen.' This story of the man being healed reminds me that God's timing is perfect and He has a plan and we all should just trust Him. Haha that brings us back to Elizabeth's verse: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.." :)

  4. Olivia, I love the thought process behind what you said. It is true that often we question why bad things happen to us, but His timing is awesome, and none of our suffering is in vain if we trust Him and let Him work our lives according to His great and perfect plan!
